The Iceland Responsible Fisheries programme (IRF) held a seminar Monday 13 February at the Fish International exhibition in Bremen. The seminar was well received; approx. 90 people attended.
Global Trust has announced that the company has received formal notification of its full and formal ISO 65 accreditation for the FAO based Certification of Responsible Fisheries Management Programme. The accreditation for this programme is formal ISO Guide 65 accreditation from a National Accreditation Body of the International Accreditation Forum. It clarifies at the highest level that the FAO based program has independence, transparency and credibility.
Germany is in the forefront in promoting sustainable use of natural resources and it is therefore natural to present the Iceland Responsible Fisheries programme to the German seafood industry at the Fish International 2012 exhibition in Bremen.
Iceland Responsible Fisheries are exhibiting at the German Seafood Show in Bremen 12-14 February 2012. A seminar will be held Monday 13 February 10-12.
Alaska Pollock joins Alaska’s salmon, halibut and black cod/sablefish fisheries in having been certified by the independent organization Global Trust in accordance with the FAO-Based Model for Responsible Fisheries Management.
MATIS recently presented findings of a study on seafood consumption and attitudes among 18-80 year old Icelanders. On average, the fish consumption frequency (fish as main course) is around two times a week. Haddock is the most frequently consumed fish species and is consumed around one time per week. Fish oil is consumed four times a week on average, but 50% of the participants consume fish oil every day.
“Published in Icelandic under the title Sjávarklasinn, the mapping campaign will provide a profile of Iceland’s ocean economy and lay the groundwork for strategic planning in 2012 upon which future changes could be measured and analyzed,” Thor Sigfusson said.
The new cruiser of the Icelandic Coast Guard, Thór, arrived to Reykjavík 27 October 2011. The vessel is important for the Coastguard and the fishing industry as well. The coastguard is in charge of preserving the country's interests and the fishing grounds.
