Encouraged by the successful outcome and market recognition of certified Icelandic cod, three more Icelandic fisheries have now made application to the Iceland Responsible Fisheries certification programme. This application is an important step for the seafood industry in Iceland, to seek further verification of sustainable use of the marine resources in Icelandic waters and thus strengthen the competitiveness of seafood products from Iceland.
Iceland Responsible Fisheries will host a seminar on responsible fisheries and market trends on 22 September 2011 at 15.00 in Kopavogur during the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition. Atlantic Cod from Iceland has been upgraded by Monterey Bay Aquarium following a revision of its red list criteria. The seafood industry in Iceland and the government have been sharing information about the fisheries management in Iceland with Monterey Bay Aquarium. This upgrade is important for the export and marketing of cod and other seafood products from Iceland.
