Revised standard 2.0 has been published

IRFF fisheries standard has been extensively reviewed and updated by the IRFF technical committee. All fisheries assessments to the standard will be assessed to this version of the standard from 1 July 2016.

Recommendations for the 2016/2017 fishing quota

The Marine Research Institute advises that the catches of cod (Gadus morhua) should be 244,000 tonnes, which is 5,000 tonnes increase from previous fishing year. The MRI has published the state of stocks report 2016/2017 with prospects and recommendations for TAC for the upcoming quota year starting 1 September.

Strong Icelandic presence at he show in Brussels 2016

Iceland Responsible Fisheries (IRF) will participate and present responsible fisheries and certification of Iclendic fisheries, as well as other qualities of quality seafood from Iceland. Finnur Gardarsson, Project Manager at Iceland Responsible Fisheries Foundation will be available for meetings and discussions about the certification programme. Bjorgvin Thor Bjorgvinsson and Gudny Karadottir from Promote Icleand, are also available for discussions about marketing and promotion of seafood from Iceland.

Global Trust SAI Global has made available the 1st Surveillance Reports for Cod, Haddock and Saithe fisheries. The objective of the Surveillance Report is to monitor for any changes or updates in the management regime, regulations and their implementation, stock assessment and status, and wider ecosystem considerations since the previous assessment (12 months after the last audit).

Madrid Fusion, one of the world´s most respected gastronomy conferences, was held in Madrid, Spain during 25-27 January 2016. Promote Iceland participated in the renowned event with a promotion of salted cod from Iceland under the brand „Taste and share the secret of Icelandic cod” (Bacalao de Islandia). The participation of „Bacalao de Islandia“ in Madrid Fusion included both cooking demonstration on stage, where Michelin starred chefs cooked salted cod from Iceland, and participation as exhibitor at Madrid Fusion´s show
