German Chefs explore Icelandic Seafood

12 October 2016

Promote Iceland and Iceland Responsible Fisheries assisted in the organization and reception of German chefs who came to Iceland recently, to learn about all the good food produce in Iceland. The main emphasis was on fish and fisheries. The group visited among other places Westman Islands and Reykjavík. It was the company Deutshce See that organised this trip.

Two members of Icelandic Culinary team presented the Icelandic raw material at Salt Eldhus, and the group got to participate in cooking numerous dishes. The menu was, among other things, kombu cured Golden redfish with sea truffles and horseradish, Brown scallop, rosehips, kohlrabi and hibiscus, Langoustine, Charred sea trout with juniper and gherkins, and fillet of lamb with timian and rutabaga. The desert was Skyr Ice cream with blueberries and omnom chocolate.

The group visited fishing company and fish processor, and also listened to a presentation about fisheries management in Iceland and certification of responsible fisheries. Everyone got a gift package. The group was delighted with the visit and what they experienced during the stay. It should be noted that many of these chefs are active on social media and have already mentioned Icelandic fish dishes in their social media.
