27 October 2016

The Icelandic Culinary Team had a great success at the IKA Culinary Olympics held in Erfurt in Germany 22-26 October. Singapore is the overall winner of the Olympics, Finland took second place and Switzerland third place.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medal

The successful Icelandic Culinary Team won four medals at the Olympics. A gold and a silver medal for the Culinary Art Table, a silver medal for the Hot Kitchen and a bronze medal for the overall Culinary Pastry Art. The team used mostly Icelandic ingredients, such as haddock, langoustine, lamb, beef and skyr.

“We are very happy with the success. The team did a great job and the medals proof that it is a strong team that works well together. It´s important to us to use Icelandic quality ingredients and the judges appreciated that, as well as the taste, look and the combination. The team members also did well in professionalism when preparing and cooking,” says the coach Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson.

The team's next project is the Culinary World Cup in Luxemburg in 2018.
