Icelandic Bacalao in Spain and Portugal

12 November 2013

Icelandic companies producing and selling salted fish products have joined together in a market initiative that promotes the quality of products produced from fresh fish that is sustainably sourced from Icelandic waters. In our promotion we have used a little Icelandic house called Eldhús, which is Icelandic for "kitchen".

This little house has travelled a long way, from village to village in Iceland, introducing Icelandic food to guests and passers-by. Now, our little Eldhús is in Southern Europe, where we want to give people the opportunity to taste Icelandic salted cod and share the experience with friends and family.

The journey started in Spain, where Eldhús was stationed at the Seafood Barcelona show. During the show we invited guests to come and visit us in the little house of food and taste salted fish from Iceland, and to meet representatives from Icelandic companies producing and selling salted fish products. Next the little house was brought to Portugal where it was situated at the main train station in Lissabon. There the public was offered to taste Icelandic salted cod, cooked according to Portuguese tradition. Representatives from the Portuguese media and food bloggers were also invited to Eldhús where they received an introduction to the Icelandic Seafood industry and to Icelandic salted cod in particular.
The little house of food is currently in Bilbao and will return home to Iceland in a few days’ time.
