Good show in Brussels this year

2 May 2017

Iceland Responsible Fisheries (IRF) took part at the Seafood Expo Global in Brussel 25-27 April. Many people showed up at the IRF booth for information and discussions about promotion of seafood, and certification.

Finnur Gardarsson, from Iceland Responsible Fisheries Foundation said that representatives from buyers, were interested in learning more about the recognition of GSSI. "It is valuable for us to have the GSSI recognition. More and more buyers have GSSI as a part of their sourcing policy for seafood." 34 companies worldwide are backing GSSI as Funding Partners from across the seafood industry, uncluding from harvesting, processing, food service, and retail. GSSI also counts on the support of FAO and six non-profit Affiliated Partners.

The interest of promoting seafood from Iceland is increasing and IRF and Promote Iceland support the marketing and promotion through both marketing projects, and with general assistance and information about suppliers. Members in the IRF programme have access to photos, fact sheets about fish, brochures with recipes, videos, etc. to use in the promotion.

This year more than 30 Icelandic companies participated at the expos. The Icelandic Minister of Fisheries, Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, and the Ambassador of Iceland in Brussels, Bergdis Ellertsdottir, did visit the expo.  They came to learn more about the products and solutions the Icelandic companies are offering. She also had meetings with her counterparts in Europe during her stay in Brussels.

Iceland at the expo since the beginning

Promote Iceland set up two national pavilions at the exposition, one in hall 6 for seafood companies, and another in hall 4 for technology and service companies. This is the 25th year that the exposition is held in Brussels, and Iceland has participated since the beginning.
