Three fisheries enter full assessment
Icelandic ling, tusk and summer spawning herring fisheries enter full assessment
Following validation assessment of three Icelandic fisheries, the common Ling (Molva molva), the Tusk (Brosme brosme) and the Summer spawning herring (Clupea harengus), the assessment team of Global Trust Certification GTC) recommended that the management system of these commercial fisheries, should proceed to full assessment.
The fisheries are under state management by the Icelandic Ministry of Industries and Innovation and fished with all fishing gears within Iceland’s 200 nautical miles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). A service agreement on full assessment of the three fisheries has been signed by Iceland Responsible Fisheries Foundation (IRFF) and GTC. A formal fisheries management plan in the form of harvest control rule (HCR) has been adopted by Icelandic authorities for these fisheries. HCR or comparable methodology is a prerequisite for IRF certification according to IRFF´s fisheries standard. The outcome of the full assessment and certification process is expected before end of 2018.
