New catch quotas for 2014-15

11 July 2014

Iceland's Fisheries Minister, Sigurdur Ingi Jóhannsson, has announced the total catch allowance of most species for the next fishing year which begins on 1 September. The decision is based on recommendations from the Marine Research Institute (MRI).  He said on this occasion: „I think it is important to maintain our reputation among fishing nations and in our market areas as a nation eploiting the resources of the sea sustainably, taking decisions on TAC based on scientific information.“ The Minister expects that fish exports from Iceland during the 2014-15 fishing year will mostly remain the same as they were for 2013-2014.

According to the Marine Research Institute, the overall fish stocks in Icelandic waters is in good shape. The MRI's advice for Cod, Haddock, Saithe and Golden Redfish fisheries, are in accordance with the long term harvesting strategies for those species.
