Icelandic Summer-spawning Herring-, Ling- and Tusk fisheries IRFM certified

On 23rd August 2019 SAI Global´s Fishery Certification Committee granted the following Icelandic commercial fisheries full certification to the IRFM Standard version 2.0:

  1. Icelandic Common Ling (Molva molva) Commercial Fisheries
  2. Icelandic Tusk (Brosme brosme) Commercial Fisheries
  3. Icelandic Summer-spawning herring (Clupea harengus) Commercial Fisheries

SAI Global’s Fishery Certification Committee met recently to consider the detailed report and recommendation submitted by the Assessment Teams with respect to the initial full assessments of the above fisheries. Assessments took place over a period of 12 months including detailed review of science and management information, site visits and peer reviewed final reports.

The Certification Committee confirmed the Assessment Team’s recommendation and determined that all 3 fisheries should be certified to the IRFM Standard, confirming that all fisheries were highly consistent with the requirements for certification.

The IRFM Standard is a certification standard based on the 1995 FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and on the 2005/09 FAO Guidelines for the Ecolabelling of Fish and Fishery Products from Marine Capture Fisheries. The assessment was in accordance with the third party, ISO/IEC 17065 accredited system of Global Trust/SAI Global Certification and provides a credible and independent certification of responsible fisheries management.
